Weather Policy
The following document will serve as the policy for LTP Facilities during inclement weather.
1. Once a storm is determined to be in the vicinity (15 miles) of both locations, each facility will determine individually if lightning is present with the incoming storm.
- If lightning is detected within 8 miles of one or both facilities, staff members will stop all play on the courts and ask members, guests, lessons, clinics and academy players to vacate the court.
- No one is to stay on the court and ride the storm out. Facility staff has authority here, not members or coaches.
- LTPDI will use weatherops.com to determine lightning strikes and distance
- LTPMP will use the Weather Bug App to determine lightning strikes and distance
- Once lightning is detected within 8 miles no play will resume for 15 minutes or as long as lightning stays within 8 miles.
2. Rain with no lightning.
- Once rain begins it will be determined by facility staff when the courts become unplayable. Facility staff has authority here, not the members or coaches.
- Once the courts become unplayable, LTPDI will send a rainedout.com message to all members letting them know courts are down and when the next update will take place.
- LTPMP will make phone calls to all upcoming reservations letting them know the courts are unplayable.
- LTPDI & LTPMP also post “courts unplayable” on Play by Point homepage
3. The staff at both facilities will be the ones who make the decision about any inclement weather.
